Off our back yard is a hayfield. Finn and the neighbourhood dogs sometimes go to poop there. Finn and I go for many walks through it and adjoining fields and in the winter we snowshoe through it.
For the last few summers, we have noticed something truly wonderful and inspiring. It is not an exaggeration to say that it is a marvel of life. Tonight, it has returned.
They come with the darkness, and like their celestial counterpart, form constellations in the field. Only these are ever changing, fluid, mesmerizing.
Right now, at this very moment, and likely for many nights to come, one of the greatest shows on earth is happening behind my house.
The hayfield is full of what must be thousands of fireflies.
What a life!
